FOOD BANK GOD PROVIDES

GOD PROVIDES FOOD BANK

God Provides Food Bank is the only Native American Food Bank in California and we support the entire San Gabriel Valley. Were also a food bank open six days a week serving 100 lb Family Packs that can support a family of four for one week. Our Family Pack is a hand up and not a hand down program create by our organization and demonstrate Native Pride by not only shipping 10,000lbs to our local reservations monthly but also offering our services to Los Angeles Communities families.

Unlike other food banks we help all those that ask for our assistance without judgment to location or income standards. We receive many referrals from County and Government offices throughout Los Angeles County, Riverside County and San Bernardino County for our Family Pack Program. It has taken us 15 years to build our resources of donations to support the growing number of homeless and families needing our services.

Due to our non discriminating polices we do not receive aid from Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and we fully understand the reasons why. Our strong desire to help those that ask for our assistance has created a niche for us helping needy families that are unable to qualify for government assistance.

The resources of California are strapped and were an organization that is not effected by budget cuts and we proudly support our government agencies with pride. We assist Homeless Outreaches with LA County Sheriff's and LA County Health Department throughout Los Angeles County. I am looking at the positive side that faith base organizations can provide California’s communities. We are seated in South El Monte, a location to many homeless and where unemployment is estimated at over 18% being the highest in the San Gabriel Valley. I think were a great platform to promote people helping people and native pride in Los Angeles County, were 100% volunteers doing God's work serving our local community.

What am I asking for? To unite Southern California tribes to post us as an emergency resource for food, note were highly promoted by 211 Call for Help Hot Line. It would be great for the state to embrace us for our creative efforts to aide our local government without drawing down on limited funding. We are reaching our 16th year of operation in South El Monte. God Provides Food Bank piloted Albertsons Fresh Rescue Program that went nationwide, first Native American Food Bank in California, feature on Divethefilm.com winner of fourteen FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS and operates on zero government funding. Our current project is establishing a second God Provides location measuring 30,000 sq ft. serving both Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County in the near future.

God Provides Food Bank is a non-profit 501(C)(3), Native American Christian faith based organization that serves the needs of the under-served and un-served members of the community regardless of their faith. God Provides Ministry strives to be a helping hand in difficult times in performing its purpose for being. Our working ministry's purpose for being is found in John 21:15-17.

Kansas Food Bank Food -4-Kids

A Kid-Friendly School-based Program – Because the most essential school supply is food.

Food 4 Kids was established for students who are food insecure and who are not getting sufficient food outside of school on a regular basis. The Food Bank provides food and supplies to Food 4 Kids schools in Kansas, which are operated in partnership with community schools.

The Food 4 Kids program allows participating schools to receive food and backpacks from the Kansas Food Bank at no cost so that we can provide food to chronically hungry children.

The following information is provided to help define a “chronically hungry” child.

FOOD INSECURITY

If a child does not get enough food outside of school he/she is considered “food insecure.” The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as households that are uncertain of having, or unable to acquire, enough food to meet basic needs of all their members because of insufficient money or other resources. When the guardian of a child has to choose between food and other necessities, e.g., having electricity shut off because they don’t have enough money, it is an indicator of food insecurity.

This who they help:

The working poor. The newly homeless. Struggling seniors. The mentally ill. Whether underemployed or unemployable, the victim of tough times or tough streets, representing a long-term need or a short-term crisis, we try to help everyone who comes to us.

Our clients range from newborn to over 90; individuals to single parents to entire families; working, unable to work and unable to find work.

But one thing that many clients have in common? They never expected to need our help. (My comment- isn't that the truth!)

Be sure to see their tipping points

Key Study Reveals More Marylanders Seeking Emergency Food Assistance

A landmark study released today by the Maryland Food Bank and Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, reports that more than 261,000 people in the Maryland Food Bank’s service area receive emergency food each year, an 11 percent increase since 2006. Of those, 71,514 are under the age of 18. The study, Hunger in America 2010, was based on interviews with more than 400 network partner agencies in the Maryland Food Bank’s service area. It is the fifth comprehensive study of hunger in the United States conducted by Feeding America, with the last study completed in 2006.
